Mentorship with Frank Wang

The June meeting June 20 (at 5pm AEST) includes a guest presentation by Frank Wang, who is professor in the Graduate Institute of Social Work, National Chengchi University, Taiwan.   Frank’s presentations are always inspirational and informative.  Having studied and worked with Dorothy Smith and colleagues, he has lots of IE wisdom to share.  He is currently the co-president of WG06, the International Sociology Association's (ISA) IE working group. If you don't know Frank, you might like to read a post he wrote in 2023 for the WG06 newsletter:  Newsletter (isa-sociology.org)   If you are interested in coming along and need the zoom link, please either fill in the form (to the left), or email Nerida at n.spina@qut.edu.au

Mentorship with Janet Rankin - May 16 @ 5pm

2024 Mentorship with Janet Janet will meet with us on the 16th of May at 5pm AEST. You are all most welcome to come along, ask questions, chat about your projects, and learn from Janet (and the rest of the group).  (Please email Nerida: n.spina@qut.edu.au for the zoom link if you are not on the mailing list). Janet has suggested a discussion on Dorothy Smith’s early writings, ““K is Mentally Ill”.  It was written when Dorothy was developing her early thinking about IE, and offers insight into the importance of language, dialogue, and the social organization of representations – and how to “think” it.  For anyone who doesn't know Janet, she is currently seconded to Qatar in her role University of Calgary (which is why she is able to join us this year, thanks to more aligned time zones).  She has a long history of having worked with IE, including having written many "go to" publications.  Most importantly, she is a generous and supportive person! https://nurs...
